The Vision, Values and Community of Country Commercial

Country Commercial is a story about South Australian families.

More than three decades ago, Colin Payne and his wife Wendy started a small business called Country Blinds in Mount Barker. Their vision was to create curtains, blinds and awnings right here in South Australia that could compare in quality to the best made anywhere in the world. Employing a team of local craftspeople and using the best materials available, the quality was there right from the start. The Country Blinds range grew and so did the business. As years went by and Colin and Wendy’s three sons Jake, Shannon and Rhett were very familiar with the running of the business and were able to take the reins and build on the great foundation put in place by their parents. The Payne brothers set about expanding Country Blinds, adding new lines, taking their products all over South Australia but keeping their manufacturing base firmly in Mount Barker, employing over 70 locals in the factory, installation, sales and administrative areas.

Country Blinds kept growing and South Australians came to know Country as a premium quality manufacturer always ready to stand behind its products. It also became well known that Country will visit homes and businesses throughout the city, suburbs, and regions – although still based in Mt Barker, Country goes just about everywhere.

Country Blinds is not a mere family business but is more an ‘extended family business’. All the great South Australian staff who comprise the Country team take a great deal of pride in what they do. Most are part of the Adelaide Hills community, and all realise the significance of their place in a local company creating products that are the industry benchmark for quality and professionalism. Progress is always part of working with Country Blinds, with a range that is continually expanding and innovations such as automation, motorisation and mobile App-controls.

Today Jake Payne serves as Sales Manager, Rhett as General & Operations Manager and Shannon as Installation Manager. Each of the 3 owners are on the road, in the factory and overseeing every installation to ensure customers get the very best product and service every time a product is made and takes pride of place in your home or office. With big plans for the business as well as growing families of their own, Country Blinds remains very much a South Australian family story.
